Hair Smoothing Treatments Gold Coast
Frizz-free hair that actually fits your life.
We live in Queensland. The humidity is real, and managing your hair in it every single day is exhausting. If you're spending more time fighting your hair than enjoying it — a professional smoothing treatment might be exactly what you've been looking for.
At August Hair Co in Parkwood, we offer a range of smoothing and manageability treatments designed to reduce frizz, boost shine, and make your daily routine genuinely easier. Not just for a week. For months.
We tailor every treatment to your hair — its texture, history, colour, and what you actually want your hair to do. Because no two heads of hair are the same, and no single treatment fits everyone.
What is a hair smoothing treatment?
A professional hair smoothing treatment works by restructuring the surface of the hair shaft and infusing it with strengthening and conditioning ingredients. The result is hair that's smoother, shinier, more manageable, and far less affected by humidity.
Depending on the treatment and your hair type, you can expect:
– Significantly reduced frizz and puffiness
– Improved shine and softness
– Easier, faster blow-drying
– More consistent curl or wave pattern (if you want to keep movement)
– Hair that feels healthier and stronger over time
The right treatment for you depends on your hair type, your goals, and whether you want to retain natural movement or achieve a straighter result. That's why we always consult before we recommend.
The treatments we offer
-
Nanoplasty — Gold Coast
Nanoplasty is a semi-permanent smoothing treatment that uses advanced technology to infuse the hair with conditioning ingredients, amino acids and natural proteins. The result is smoother, healthier, more manageable hair — with a reduction in frizz that lasts for several months.
It's a popular choice for clients who want a significant improvement in manageability and frizz control, without the commitment of a permanent result. Nanoplasty works across most hair types, including colour-treated and blonde hair, and can be adapted based on how much smoothing or straightening effect you want.
Best for: Frizz control, improved manageability, softer texture. Lasts 4–8 months depending on hair type and aftercare.
-
Hair botox — Gold Coast
Hair botox is a deep-conditioning smoothing treatment that works by filling gaps in the hair fibre with nourishing ingredients — proteins, vitamins, and amino acids. Unlike some stronger treatments, hair botox doesn't structurally change the hair. Instead, it restores and plumps the strand, reducing frizz and improving shine without altering your natural texture.
It's a gentler option, particularly well-suited to hair that's dry, damaged, or over-processed, and to clients who want to improve the overall health and feel of their hair rather than achieve a straighter result.
Best for: Dry, damaged or fine hair. Adds shine, softness and frizz control. Lasts 2–4 months.
Why we don't offer traditional keratin treatments
You'll notice we don't list keratin treatments as a service — and that's a deliberate choice.
Traditional keratin treatments work by coating the outside of the hair shaft with a layer of keratin protein. That coating creates the appearance of smoother, shinier hair — but it sits on the surface rather than working inside the hair structure itself. Over time, that surface coat washes away, often unevenly, and can leave the hair looking flat or weighed down between treatments.
Many traditional keratin systems also historically relied on formaldehyde or formaldehyde-releasing chemicals to seal that coating in place. While formaldehyde-free keratin options do exist, the fundamental technology is still a surface-level approach.
The treatments we offer — nanoplasty and hair botox — work differently. They use nanotechnology and conditioning ingredients to penetrate the hair fibre itself, restructuring and nourishing the hair from the inside out. The result is smoother, healthier hair that improves with each treatment rather than just coating and temporarily concealing.
We'd rather use technology that genuinely improves your hair than a system that creates the illusion of improvement. That's why we've moved beyond keratin.
If you've previously had a keratin treatment: we can absolutely work with your hair. Many of our clients have transitioned from keratin to nanoplasty or hair botox and noticed a real improvement in their hair's long-term health and feel.
Not sure which is right for you?
That's exactly what consultations are for. We'll look at your hair, talk through your goals and lifestyle, and recommend the treatment that genuinely makes sense for your hair — not the most expensive option, and not a one-size-fits-all approach.
Book a smoothing consultation at our Parkwood salon and we'll guide you through it.
Why Gold Coast hair needs a different approach
The Gold Coast climate — particularly the humidity through summer — is one of the most challenging environments for managing hair. If you've moved here from a drier climate, you'll know exactly what we mean.
The treatments we offer are specifically well-suited to high-humidity environments. By smoothing the hair cuticle and reinforcing the hair shaft, they significantly reduce the amount your hair swells and frizzes in response to moisture in the air. The result is hair that holds its shape far better throughout the day — even on a humid Gold Coast morning.
This is something we talk about with every client. Frizz control in Queensland isn't just about the treatment — it's about choosing the right treatment for your specific hair, and managing it correctly at home.
Smoothing treatments for blonde hair — Gold Coast
One of the most common questions we get is whether smoothing treatments are safe on blonde or colour-treated hair. The answer is yes — but it requires expertise.
Blonde hair can be more porous and more sensitive to certain treatment formulas. We always select and adapt the treatment approach based on your blonde's level, condition and chemical history. Timing matters too — we'll guide you on the ideal order of services to protect your colour and get the best smoothing result.
Jen has been working with blonde hair for over 30 years and brings that depth of knowledge to every smoothing service. If your hair is coloured or lightened, you're in safe hands here.
What to expect from your appointment
Every smoothing appointment at August Hair Co begins with a proper consultation — not a quick look and a nod. We'll discuss your hair history, your goals, any previous treatments, and what daily life looks like for your hair.
From there, we select the most appropriate formula and adapt our application to your specific hair type. Treatment times vary depending on the service and your hair length and density, but most smoothing appointments run between 2 and 4 hours.
We'll give you clear, honest aftercare instructions at the end of your appointment — because how you care for your hair at home plays a significant role in how long your results last.
Our approach — low-tox, formaldehyde-free
We are committed to using low-tox, formaldehyde-free treatments. The smoothing systems we use are selected for their safety, performance, and alignment with healthy hair principles.
We won't use products that compromise your hair health, your scalp, or the wellbeing of our team. If you have sensitivities, allergies, or specific concerns about ingredients, let us know before your appointment and we'll talk through everything openly.

Hair Smoothing Treatment FAQs — Gold Coast
We get a lot of questions about smoothing treatments — and we think that's a good thing. An informed client gets better results. So here are honest answers to the questions we hear most often at August Hair Co in Parkwood, Gold Coast.
– proteins, restructuring the hair fibre from the inside out to reduce frizz and improve manageability. It can soften or partially straighten the hair depending on the formula and your hair type. It's formaldehyde-free and suitable for most hair types including blonde and colour-treated hair. Expect results that last 4–8 months.
– Hair botox is a deep-conditioning treatment that fills and plumps the hair shaft with nourishing ingredients — proteins, vitamins, amino acids. It doesn't structurally alter the hair, it restores it. It's the gentler of the two options and is particularly good for dry, damaged or over-processed hair. The result is improved shine, softness and reduced frizz rather than a straightening effect. Expect results that last 2–4 months.
The right choice depends on your hair type, condition, and what you want to achieve. We'll talk you through both at your consultation.
What about keratin treatments — do you offer those?
We don't — and it's a deliberate decision we're happy to explain.
Traditional keratin treatments work by coating the outside of the hair shaft with a protein layer that creates the appearance of smoother, shinier hair. The problem is that this coating sits on the surface of the hair rather than working inside it. It washes away unevenly over time, can weigh the hair down, and many traditional keratin systems have historically relied on formaldehyde or formaldehyde-releasing chemicals to seal that surface coat in place.
The treatments we offer — nanoplasty and hair botox — use a fundamentally different approach. They work inside the hair fibre itself, using nanotechnology and conditioning ingredients to genuinely restructure and nourish the hair from within. The result isn't just smoother-looking hair — it's hair that's actually healthier and improves with each treatment.
We've moved beyond the older keratin model because we think our clients deserve technology that genuinely improves their hair rather than temporarily coating it.
Coming from keratin treatments? No problem at all. Many of our clients have transitioned from keratin to nanoplasty and noticed a real difference in their hair's long-term health and feel. We'll assess your hair at your consultation and recommend the right approach.
Which smoothing treatment is right for my hair?
There's no universal answer — which is exactly why we consult before every service. As a general guide:
– Fine or damaged hair tends to respond well to hair botox — it nourishes without overloading
– Frizzy, thick or coarse hair usually benefits most from nanoplasty
– Blonde or heavily colour-treated hair needs careful formula selection — we know what to look for
– If you want to retain some natural wave or curl, we can adapt the treatment accordingly
– If you want a straighter, more controlled result, nanoplasty with a stronger formula may suit you better
Book a consultation and we'll look at your hair properly and give you an honest recommendation.
Are your treatments formaldehyde-free?
Yes. We are committed to using low-tox, formaldehyde-free treatments. This is non-negotiable for us — both for your wellbeing and for our team who work with these products daily.
If you have specific sensitivities, allergies or concerns about any ingredients, please let us know before your appointment. We're happy to go through exactly what we're using and why.
Is nanoplasty better than a keratin treatment?
In our view, yes — and here's why we think that.
Traditional keratin treatments work at the surface of the hair. The keratin protein coats the outside of the hair shaft, creating smoother-looking hair until it washes away. It's essentially a surface-level fix.
Nanoplasty uses nanotechnology to deliver conditioning and restructuring ingredients inside the hair fibre itself — deep into the cortex rather than sitting on the cuticle. The nanoparticles are small enough to penetrate the hair structure and work from within, which is why the results tend to be more genuine and why the hair often feels genuinely healthier rather than just appearing smoother.
It's the difference between filling a crack from the inside versus painting over it. Both look better initially — but only one actually addresses what's underneath.
This is why we've chosen not to offer traditional keratin treatments. We think our clients deserve technology that genuinely improves their hair.
What is hair botox — is it actually botox?
No — hair botox contains no botulinum toxin. The name is borrowed from cosmetic botox in that both 'fill in' something: cosmetic botox fills fine lines, hair botox fills in gaps and damage in the hair shaft. It's a marketing term for a deep conditioning and smoothing treatment that restores hair rather than chemically altering it.
It's one of the gentlest smoothing options available, which makes it a great choice for clients with sensitive scalps, dry or damaged hair, or those who want to improve their hair's health and manageability without a strong straightening effect.
Results and how long they last
How long do smoothing treatments last?
It depends on the treatment and your hair — but as a general guide:
– Nanoplasty: 4–8 months
– Hair botox: 2–4 months
– Keratin treatments: 3–6 months
How long your results last also depends on your aftercare routine, how often you wash your hair, whether you swim regularly in chlorine or salt water, and your hair type. We'll give you personalised guidance at your appointment.
Will the treatment make my hair completely straight?
Not necessarily — and that's often a good thing. The amount of straightening depends on the treatment, the formula, and your natural hair type. Most smoothing treatments reduce frizz and volume significantly and make the hair much more manageable, without necessarily removing all natural wave or curl.
If you want a straighter result, we can select a treatment and application method suited to that goal. If you want to keep movement but eliminate frizz, we can do that too. This is one of the conversations we have at your consultation.
Does the treatment damage my hair?
The treatments we use are specifically designed to support, not damage, hair health. Our low-tox, formaldehyde-free systems work by conditioning and restructuring the hair — not stripping or weakening it. Most clients notice their hair feels stronger, softer and healthier after a smoothing treatment.
That said, if your hair is already significantly damaged or compromised before treatment, we may recommend a different approach or a staged plan. We'll always be honest with you about what your hair needs.
Before your appointment
Do I need to prepare my hair before a smoothing treatment?
Yes — and it makes a real difference to your results. We'll give you specific preparation instructions after you book, but in general:
– Wash your hair thoroughly in the days leading up to your appointment — build-up reduces how well the treatment absorbs
– Avoid heavy oils, silicone-based products or masks in the week before
– Come in with clean, dry hair on the day
The better your hair is prepared, the better your result. We'll tell you exactly what to do based on the treatment you're having.
Can I have a smoothing treatment on coloured or bleached hair?
In most cases, yes. However, the timing and approach matter — particularly for blonde or heavily lightened hair. As a general guide:
– For bleached or lifted hair, we typically recommend waiting around 2 weeks before or after a smoothing treatment
– Toners and semi-permanent colour can usually be done in the same appointment or shortly after
– We'll always assess your hair's condition before recommending a plan
If you're due for both colour and a smoothing treatment, book a consultation and we'll work out the right order and timing for your hair.
Can I have a smoothing treatment while pregnant or breastfeeding?
We always recommend checking with your GP or obstetrician before receiving any professional hair treatment during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. We use low-tox, formaldehyde-free products, but as every pregnancy is different, we want you to have the guidance of your healthcare provider before proceeding.
Please let us know at the time of booking so we can have the relevant product information ready for you.
After your appointment
What's the aftercare for a smoothing treatment?
Aftercare varies slightly depending on the treatment you've had, and we'll give you personalised instructions at your appointment. In general:
– Most treatments require avoiding washing for 3–7 days after the service
– Avoid swimming in chlorinated or salt water for at least 10 days
– Avoid tying hair tightly (especially when wet) for the first few washes
– Use a gentle, low-sulphate shampoo to help extend your results
The way you care for your hair at home has a significant impact on how long your results last. We take the time to explain this properly at every appointment.
Can I still curl or style my hair after a smoothing treatment?
Yes — a smoothing treatment doesn't stop you from using heat tools or styling your hair. Most clients actually find styling becomes easier and faster after treatment, because the hair is smoother and more cooperative.
We recommend using a heat protectant and keeping heat tools at a sensible temperature to support the longevity of your results and the overall condition of your hair.
Can I swim after a smoothing treatment?
We generally recommend waiting around 10 days before swimming in chlorinated or salt water. After that, it's fine — though rinsing your hair after swimming and keeping up your aftercare routine will help protect your results for longer.
If you swim regularly, tell us at your consultation. We'll factor that into our treatment recommendation and give you tips for extending your results.
Blonde hair and smoothing treatments
Is nanoplasty safe for blonde hair?
Yes — when it's done properly. Blonde hair tends to be more porous and more sensitive to certain treatment formulas, which is why formula selection and application technique matter enormously for lightened hair.
We are highly experienced working with blonde and colour-treated hair. We select the appropriate treatment formula for your level and condition, and adapt the application accordingly. If you have a particularly delicate blonde or recently lightened hair, we'll talk through this with you before we begin.
Will a smoothing treatment affect my blonde colour or tone?
It can, depending on the treatment and your blonde. Some smoothing treatments can shift tone slightly — particularly on very light blondes. This is something we flag and discuss before every appointment on colour-treated hair.
In most cases, any minor tone shift can be addressed with a toner either at the same appointment or shortly after. We'll be upfront about what to expect for your specific hair.
Can I have a smoothing treatment on grey hair?
It depends on the percentage of grey and the condition of your hair. Natural grey hair can be more resistant to some treatments, and the results can vary. If you're 80–100% natural grey, we'll discuss this honestly at your consultation, as the treatment effectiveness and potential for colour change can be different.
Grey hair that has been tinted can usually be treated, though we'll always assess first. Book a consultation and we'll give you an honest picture of what to expect.
At August Hair Co
Where are you located?
August Hair Co is located at 3/280 Olsen Ave, Parkwood, Gold Coast QLD 4214 — on the Northern Gold Coast, close to Southport, Ashmore, Molendinar and the Griffith University precinct.
Do you offer a consultation before the smoothing treatment?
Always. We don't do smoothing treatments without understanding your hair history and goals first. You can book a standalone consultation, or we can complete the consultation at the start of your treatment appointment. For more complex hair histories (significant chemical treatments, previous straightening, etc.) we'd recommend a dedicated consult first.
Do you only offer smoothing treatments, or other services too?
We offer a full range of hair services at August Hair Co — colour, blondes, balayage, hair extensions, cuts, and our Blow Dry Club membership. Smoothing treatments are one of our specialties, but many of our smoothing clients become long-term colour and care clients too. We'd love to be your full-service hair home.
